These workshops will introduce and encourage appreciation and participation in photography, typography and the combining of the two to create both standalone artworks as well as artworks as components of a more complex multi-messaging work.
We have a small number of creatives in Knottingley and Ferrybridge that will deliver the workshops and coordinate the production of the artworks which will be installed publicly for the community as well as establishing a gallery space in The Little K and externally.
This project is supported with a Culture Grant by Wakefield Council as part of Our Year - Wakefield District 2024.

The project will tell the story of a once proud mining town through the prism of it's beating heart, known affectionately as The Big K, by sharing individual and collective testimonies in words and photographs.

We will work with local residents to create their own photography exhibition as part of Wakefield Council's 'Our Year' cultural celebration. They will document, display and interpet their year - to ensure their stories are heard during the 40 year anniversary of the miners' strikes. They will take part in a series of participatory art workshops that teach them new skills in creating as well as curating, interpreting and promoting their own art exhibition.
